Shyam, working with IBM, is distraught. For, he has not seen his son for two-and-a-half years. And, there is no guarantee the meeting will happen any time soon. He has been fighting for his six-year-old child's custody for two years now. But the family court has not taken up his case as it is not equipped with enough judges The child is in his estranged wife, Smitha's custody. The couple's divorce suit as well as the child's custody case are pending in the court. With his wife not obliging, a court directive is mandatory for him to see his son. Shyam was among the scores of others, including men and women, who on Saturday staged a protest in front of the family court on Siddaiah road, demanding the appointment of more judges for early disposal of their cases. The Save Indian Family Foundation and Children's Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting (CRISP) had organised the protest demonstration. The protesters demanded speedy trial in the family court and disposal of cases as early as possible. The 3rd additional family court is not functioning for an year now, the 2nd additional family court is also not for six months. Only two courts are working in the family court block, causing a huge backlog of cases. The existing courts too are spending most of their time in giving adjournments. |
